We also added these additional features to assist with the functionality of this utilitarian bag:

  • Pebble Grained Reinforcements: serve as bumpers for your bag when placed against the ground or surfaces.

  • Reinforced Piping: provides additional detailing in contrasting chocolate brown, and help maintain the duffel shape.

  • Pebble Grained Contrasting Stitch Straps and Buckles: help provide you with the convenience of carrying options that you can count on.

Beyond the utility of this luxury leather travel bag is the history and the road that inspired the name of this legacy piece. We’ll share the details below.

Mexican Geography

A Dangerous Road from Tecate to Mexicali

The history of La Rumorosa begins with the famous road that crosses the Sierra de Juarez in the Baja California Mountains, now known legally as Mexican Federal Highway 2D. La Rumorosa the road initially received its’ infamy due to the steep grade, high winds and recklessness of thrill seeking drivers. The road is now the site of many added security measures, yet still proves to be one of the most dangerous roads for the inexperienced.

Beyond the average tourist, this famous path has even been shown on the silver screen:

This dramatic location has been used by filmmakers, perhaps most famously for the final chase scene in the James Bond film "Licence to Kill", and recently BBC Top Gear decided this would be the most appropriate place to test drive Mexico's new sports car the Mastretta.

While the internationally acclaimed Federal Highway 2D has been the main source of traffic for the region, a town named in honor of the road (aptly inspired by the whispering winds of the twisting mountain path) gives birth to ancient voices and history for all to enjoy. The town located 1278 Meters above sea levels has a treasure trove of artifacts containing pottery, mortars, and most famously Native American cafe paintings. Home to a historic archeological site dating roughly 500 years, one can visit and experience history first hand:

“The cave paintings of the El Vallecito area are a one-of-a-kind archaeological site consisting of 23 rock formations with paintings depicting the "La Rumorosa" style of cave art made by the ancient Yuman tribe which once inhabited the Baja California area up to the San Diego County area.”

This plentiful history and beckoning landscape inspire us to travel and explore all aspects of life. We believe in the expertise and understanding required to respect the winding roads of the tumultuous canyons, as well as the reverence and observation necessary to honor the lives of the past still speaking through their art.

Closing Notes:

We engrain into each of our handmade leather goods the essence of who we are, and the individuality of the artisan. The history of the landscapes that still inspire many are the same wellsprings of beauty that continue to draw us closer each day. It’s our hope to share with you not only the history of México but also to inspire you to take the roads less traveled, to be prepared in the face of challenges, and to leave a lasting impression wherever you go. This is why we created the Rumorosa Duffle Bag, for all individuals seeking to dominate the road that leads them forward, regardless of the winds and turns that obstruct them.
